英语文章因特网的由来
它最早是美国国防部为支持国防研究项目而在1960年建立的一个试验网.它把许多大学和研究机构的计算机联接到一起,这样,研究人员就可以通过这个试验网随时进行交流,而不必再频繁地聚在一起开会讨论问题了.同时,由于各地的数据、程序和信息能够在网上实现资源共享,从而最大限度地发挥各地资源,这无疑极大地提高了工作效率,也大大降低了工作成本.
　　因特网的发展70年代末,计算机远距离通讯需求开始实现,于是针对性的研究开始实施并最终在技术上得以实现,越来越多的、更广范围的计算机可以联接在一起,充分体验到这一全新通讯方式的优点.
　　1983年,因特网已开始从实验型向实用型转变.随着对商业化使用政策的放宽,因特网已经不仅仅局限于信息的传递,网上信息服务出现了.许多机构、公司、个人将搜集到的信息放到因特网上,提供信息查询和信息浏览服务.人们把提供信息来源的地方称为“网站”,即因特网上的信息站点.凡是连入因特网的用户,无论在世界任何地方、任何时刻,都可以从网站上获取所需的信息和服务.可以说,此时的因特网才真正发挥出它的巨大作用,也正是从这时起,因特网吸引了越来越多的机构、团体和用户,这个网也随之越来越庞大了.
　　因特网现状 进入90年代,日益加快的现代社会的节奏,伴随着高性能的计算机走进普通家庭,因特网也进入了飞速发展时期.目前,全世界已有两亿多用户接入因特网.我国在1994年正式接入因特网之后,已形成4个主要干道进入因特网,它们是：中国公用计算机互联网(CHINANET)、中国教育和科研计算机网(CERNET)、中国科技网(CSTNET)和中国金桥信息网(CHINAGBN).目前,中国联通和铁路信息网也正在加入其中.
　　因为因特网起源于美国,最初网上几乎全都是英文信息,随着中国的加入,为华人服务的中文网站出现了,大量中文网站的涌现最终吸引了越来越多的普通用户走进因特网的世界.据中国互联网络信息中心的最新统计数字表明,截止到去年底,我国上网用户达到210万,与1998年7月公布的数据相比,我国上网用户数半年内就增加了接近一倍.如果互联网用户继续以半年一倍的速度增长,会出现怎样的前景呢?据有关专家保守预测,到2000年,我国上网用户将达到400万至500万；到2010年,将达到2.8亿；甚至有专家大胆预测到2000年底,中国上网用户就会达到1000万.
　　人们从因特网上不仅获取了大量的信息,更重要的是因特网已经深入到人们的工作和生活的各个角落,我们正在步入一个因特网的新时代,在这里你会发现,世界正在变得越来越小.
　　定义因特网现在所谓的因特网已是世界规模最大、用户最多、影响最广的一个全球性的、开放化的大网络,在这里蕴藏着丰富的信息资源,等待着每一个上网者来探索和寻求.
