germ [dʒə:m] n.微生物,原始生物；细菌(尤指病原菌,病菌),都是指有害细菌.
注意,germ 不包括病毒,病毒是virus.病毒和细菌是两回事.
germ 还有 胚芽,萌芽的意思,还可以做动词：萌生,萌芽.
bacteria
[bæk'tɪərɪə] n.专指细菌,没有别的意思.如：lactic acid bacteria 乳酸菌 pathogenic bacteria 致病菌；病原菌 等等.
germ和bacteria的区别就是前者都是指有害的细菌,而后者包括所有有益的细菌和有害的细菌.

germ跟bacteria是一个从属关系。

 

germ是一个统称：a microorganism, esp one that produces disease in animals or plants

（一个微生物，特别是能使动植物染病的）

这里微生物包括好多种，很多都能使动植物染病：包括细菌bacteria,  病毒virus，病菌fungus(pl. fungi), 原虫protozoa等等


bacteria不一定都是不好的，也可能是好的bacteria，所以bacteria是很中性的一个名词,

但是说到germ，一般都是贬义的，因为定义里面说了“特别是能使动植物染病的”, 比如别人对你打喷嚏你就说 Don't spread your germs 之类的
