Desire for No Examination
I have a lot of aspirations. But what I desire most is to have no examinations.
We are always told that examinations aim to check what we have learned. But I don't think so. Examination is not the best way', especially in the primary school. Examinations, composition examinations in particular, will bring students, teachers and parents a great deal of pressure. To cope with the examination, some students just remember the model essays by rote. It will do no good to the improvement of writing.
The students' scores can be measured by their daily in-class study and by the completion of their everyday homework. If we do in this way, all the students and teachers will have a pleasant time every day.
Pollution: a Social Problem
When we read newspapers, we often come across the word pollution. This word was not familiar to the people some decades ago. But now, it is a serious threat to us because.it means the poisoning of the air, seas, rivers and lands, which would do harm to our health.
There are many factories that bring pollution to us. We can not have fresh air in the morning. This is mainly because of the poisonous smoke coming from factories, especially chemical ones. In rivers, seas and oceans, there are industrial wastes. Some factories just throw their wastes into seas or let them flow into rivers. When people drink the water from such rivers, they get poisoned. Besides, there is rubbish from ships and when sometimes an accident occurs in an ocean, oil flows out from tankers.
On land, the accumulation of rubbish in the streets may dirty the city and ruin our health. This is mainly due to the improper disposal of rubbish by people.
If we do mot fight against pollution, surely one day all of us will be killed. Some people like to put the blame on the industrial revolutions. On the contrary, the pollution problem will be solved only with the help of modem science and technology.
Never Put Off Until Tomorrow Whst You Can Do Today
We have been told that mever put lff untill tomorrow what you can do today since childhood. However, there are still many people who like putting offthc things thcv should do today until tomorrow. They have no plans for their work and their time. As a result, they will not accomplish their goals in the end.
For cxample, one Sunday I felt so tired after having a football match that I did not finish my homework even at night. I thought I could get up earlier to go to school the next morning so that I could finish my homework before class. But the next morning I was not able to get to school in time because of the traffic jam. I was punished by the teacher.
It taught me a lesson. From then on I made a determination that I would niver put off anything important until the next day. Please remember: Work today, for you don' t know how much you may be hindered tomorrow. Seize the present day and trust the tomorrow as little as possible.
Visiting the Great Wall on Badaling
Thursday May29,2003 Sunny
It is fine today. I made an appointment with my foreign friend Peter to visit the Great Wall on Badaling.
We set out early in the morning. We first took the subway and then the bus. On reaching the foot of the Great Wall, Peter was attracted by the landscape immediately."What a won der!" he said repeatedly and pulled me onto the cable car at once. We got a view of the beautiful scenery. After a while, we got to the Great Wall. Peter was very excited. He touched the bricks frequently. I explained to him when and how' we Chinese built the wall. He listened with great interest. When we entered a turret, Peter was more curious. I told him what the turret was and what it was built for. "It was really an amazing achievement!" Peter gasped with admiration and took several photos. Unconsciously, we found we had reached the Stele of Brave Man, the symbol of the Great Wall. A lot of visitors gathered around it and took photos. I translated the words on the stele for Peter. "Only the one who can reach the Great Wall is a brave man." "Really?" Peter asked jokingly. We both laughed.
It the time to go back. We were fascinated by the scenery and reluctant to leave. We really had a pleasant time.
